3 pre-school books for the summer hols

AJ has had 2 lovely review books from TopThat Publishing.

Po-Tolo by Olly Oliver
  • 32 pages
  • Publisher: Top That! Publishing (1 Mar 2012)
  • ISBN-13: 978-1849566094

Po-Tolo is a spaceman, Lop is an octopus and Izzy is a Bumble Bee with hayfever!  So begins a tale with a green moral about how important bees are. Can Plan B work to save the bees and the planet?

Great characters and fabulous illustrations. A fun read with a serious green message.  Would love to see more from Po-Tolo

5 out of 5!

  • 64 pages
  • Publisher: Top That! Publishing (1 Mar 2012)
  • ISBN-13: 978-1849567237

We had already seen When I Dream of ABC and were excited to see When I Dream of 123 .
Original illustrations that would make great posters for the wall.  Counting made fun finding numbers of everything from Polar Bears to Princesses to Snowflakes. It is a lovely companion to When I Dream of ABC.  Would make a  great gift for a pre-schooler.

The 3rd book was a gift after the lovely folks at TopThat saw my tweets about how very ill AJ had been with a severe asthma attack a few weeks ago. Big thank you to TopThat

  • Paperback: 30 pages
  • Publisher: Top That! Publishing (1 Aug 2011)
  • ISBN-13: 978-1849564557

AJ chose Fast Cars Sticker Reference Book.  He is ready to go to school in Sept and is becoming more interested in anything that moves.
I liked this book because it would make an ideal gift. It comes with a free metal keyring of a racing car attached to the front.
It is factual but not overwhelming for younger readers just starting to look at information books.  The stickers add an extra fun activity to the book.

AJ's Pre-school choices

AJ had some lovely books arrive from TopThat! Publishers.
These would be lovely stocking fillers or books to get with those book vouchers.

This first book, Little Penguin Learns to Swim  is the story of the day on CBeebies at 1pm, Christmas Day.

  • Publisher: Top That! Publishing (1 Sep 2011)
  • ISBN-13: 978-1849564403

It was an important day for Little Penguin. He was going swimming for the very first time.

New and emerging readers will love to join Little Penguin as he prepares for his first swim. As he meets friends along the way, Little Penguin tries to overcome his fear.  Will Little Penguin be brave enough to jump in and swim?

Young children will be able to identify with Little Penguin as he embarks on a new challenge that seems impossible and quite scary.  Along the way he meets other Antarctic creatures who give him the confidence to take the plunge.

We loved sharing this story which was just the right length for bedtime.  The  soft pastel sketches are beautiful and make Little Penguin and his friends adorable.

  • Publisher: Top That! Publishing PLC (1 Oct 2011)
  • ISBN-13: 978-1849564502

Farmer McDoogle has a very unusual farm.  On his farm he doesn't keep chickens, cows or pigs.  On his farm he keeps monsters!

Diggle must use all of his expert knowledge, and a bag of smelly old socks, to find a missing Gogglynipper.

Will he find the Gogglynipper before Farmer McDoogle finds out?

Diggle is out on the farm rounding up Gogglynippers.  Yes, this is no ordinary farm. There is not a cow, pig or sheep to be seen.  This is a farm of , not too scary, monsters.  One of the Gogglynippers is missing and Diggle must find him before the farmer finds out.

I believe this one will appeal particularly to little boys with funny looking monsters.
Although you may think monsters for bedtime reading is not a good idea, the Gogglynipper has a secret that may help your little one when it comes to bedtime.

Be prepared to concentrate on the tongue-twisting tale. :)

Review - The Froobles

The Froobles. The brand will launch with 12 printed titles that will be published in September.
The vocal talents of Johnny Vaughan, Denise van Outen, Edith Bowman and Reggie Yates will appear within the animated story sections of the iPhone, iPad and Android Apps, bringing the antics of The Froobles to life.

The Froobles are unique characters that have been brought to life by the magic of children's imaginations. Scenes created by playgroup children provide The Froobles with an ever-changing world in which they have fun adventures while learning valuable lessons along the way.

They have their own interactive website with games to play too.

There are 12 books in the series. Each story has an exciting adventure to share with your child.
The stories are 32 pages long, which is ideal for bedtime, in language appropriate for young children whilst teaching them valuable life lessons.

In Cory Cucumber and the farmyard muddle, Cory learns how to admit his mistakes and get help.

In Ozzy Onion and the noisy dinosaurs, Ozzy and the dinosaurs learn how to play together nicely.

I loved the full page pictures which are a mixture of illustrations and photographs.

There is a page of stickers at the end of each book to make your own scene. Kids love stickers.

Small enough to slip into a rucksack or your handbag, these would be great to keep little ones occupied whilst out and about.
Great stocking filler idea!

5 out of 5 for us!

Thank you TopThat! Publishing for sending me a couple of review copies.
