Suggested reads - Rememberance Week

It is Rememberance Week in the UK.  11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.

I have several historical fiction novels on my shelves that are set in WW1 or WW2 and a few that I have already reviewed here on the blog.

The Silver Locket by Margaret James - Review

Set in WW1
It's 1914 and young Rose Courtenay has a decision to make.  Please her wealthy parents by marrying the man of their choice - or play her part in the war effort?

The chance to escape proves irresistible and Rose becomes a nurse. Working in France, she meet Lieutenant Alex Denham, a dark figure from her past.
He's the last man in the world she'd get involved with - especially now he's married.

Izzy's War - Isla Dewar - Review

Set in WWII

Izzy has joined the Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA) and can't believe her luck.  She's getting to do the think she loves most: flying.  On the ground she is a woman who longs to be independent, but who is lying to her family about the job she does.
But, in the thrill of the air, she can be free.

Izzy's heroine is her friend, Elspeth, who, on an impulse, signed up to do her bit as a lumber-jill and has been regretting it ever since.  While Elspeth dreams of simple comforts: hot baths and home cooking, Izzy dreams of being more like her friend and finally standing up to her vicar father.  But when Izzy falls for the charms of an American doctor, she ends up only adding to the list of secrets she's keeping....

Set in WWII
The year is 1944 and America have just entered the war.  Young men are being drafted in to fight with their allies on Europe's distant shores.  Throughout America, sweethearts are saying their last goodbyes.

Liz Stephens is already betrothed, but when she meets GI Morgan McCain, she feels an intense connection.  However, as he dances with her best friend Betty, Liz wonders if it was all in her imagination....

Betty persuades Liz to write letters for her to post to Morgan overseas. But as the last searing days of World War II loom, a correspondence begins that will alter the course of their lives forever.

Pam Jenoff is guest author here on Thursday
