The blurb
Have you ever wanted to walk out on your life? One Friday morning, Emily realises that, somewhere in life, she has chosen the wrong path. She's stifled by her job as a New York lawyer, she barely sees her husband, James, and their attempts to start a family have proven unsuccessful. So Emily escapes. She walks out of the office, turns her phone off, packs a bag and leaves New York. She doesn't even tell James she's leaving... But when a new path leads back to her past, and an old lover, new problems arise. As Emily begins to carve out a new life, where does that leave everything and everyone she left behind?

Emily is not happy with the way her life is running away with her.  She wants to get off the treadmill and take stock.  One Friday morning she just walks out of work, picks up her husband's BMW and drives.   She seeks refuge with her best friend from college, Vicki.
This is not quite as ideal as it sounds as there is something in the past that these two need to work through.  There is also another figure from the past that is about to come back into Emily's life.

Meanwhile, Emily's husband is back home trying to work out where his wife is and why.

I was drawn into Emily's wonderfully detailed narrative explaining how she came to walk out of work and out on her out of control life.

With a strong cast of characters, Barbara Delinsky has taken an in-depth look at relationships, family, the past and getting the right balance of family, work and play.

My first Barbara Delinsky novel but not my last.

4.5 out of 5 for me!  Loved it!

Review copy, thank you Canvas.  This did not influence my review in any way.
