Mele Kalikimaka
Mele Kalikimaka is Hawaiian for Merry Christmas, and the song instantly and always warms my cold Midwestern heart. Following traditions year after year, (ham, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole) (preceded by way too many Ginger Krinkle cookies!), digging out the decorations, arguing with the kids about why fake trees are far superior to real ones, the stress of the season careened out of control. So one yuletide, we chucked it all and went to Hawaii. There in paradise, we actually had time, inhaling the most intoxicating combination of suntan lotion whilst passing by pinery Christmas trees, to honor the season.
Mele Kalikimaka!
