Christmas questions - how lovely! Thanks Carol for including me on your lovely festive blog x
Favourite childhood memory for the season
The Christmas tree always went up on Christmas Eve in our home. Mother placed a real fir in a bucket of soil and stood it in the bay window of our Victorian home. She'd dig deep in the dusty cupboard under the stairs and find well loved ornaments, which lay in yellowing boxes, hidden in ancient wrapping paper. My sisters and I hung the glass trinkets and shiny balls on the branches as Grandpa sat in a winged-back chair fixing the fairy lights. When the tree was finally ready we all stood round the tree, grinning with excitement. I still get that familiar shiver when I dress our tree today.
Bucks Fizz or Mulled Wine or other?
It has to be a 'Snowball' for me. That's my fist tipple on Christmas Day. A couple of years ago, the prodigal decided to lace my 'tipples' with brandy and as a result I forgot to turn the turkey oven on…. We had a lovely vegetarian celebration meal!
Lunch has been demolished and the dishwasher is on....do you walk, sit down for Eastenders and Queen’s speech or have another tradition for after lunch
A couple of years ago it snowed on Christmas Day - perfect fat blobs of cotton wool snow. Full of lunch and dressed up warmly, we all ventured out and had a snow ball fight of considerable magnitude with the men turning into five year olds as they planned their strategic attacks. I was soon bowled over, but full of tipsy 'snowballs' retaliation seemed pointless…
